EMR Training Requirements

Primary Care Paramedic Program

Recognized EMR Programs

In order to meet our admission requirements, EMR certificates dated January 1, 2024 or later must come from a course/program that:

  • Is EMALB recognized
  • Includes all Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 endorsements added by Ministerial Order 292/22
  • Includes at least 120 hours of in-person instruction
For sub-programs, such as EMR Scope Update or FR-EMR Bridging courses, we are only able to recognized training provided by schools/programs that also offer a full EMR which meets the requirements above.

The list below is built from data found on the EMALB list of recognized programs, located here, or that has been provided to Columbia Paramedic Academy by the training institution.

This list was last updated December 27, 2023.

Training programs are coming online and undergoing changes at a fast pace, so the list below will change as we learn of new or updated programs.  If you believe the status for your school or course needs to be updated please contact us to flag it for review.

MEETS COLUMBIA EMR
APPLICATION PREREQUISITES

  • ACBC First Aid Training

  • Coast Wilderness Medical Training

  • Columbia Medical Training

  • College of the Rockies

  • Heartsafe EMS Training

  • Justice Institute of British Columbia (JIBC)

  • Whistler First Aid

DOES NOT MEET COLUMBIA EMR
APPLICATION PREREQUISITES

  • Academy of Emergency Training

  • Canadian Red Cross

  • Canadian Coast Guard

  • Firemedix

  • Mountainview Safety

  • OHM Medical Services

  • St. John’s Ambulance

Important Notes:

  • Determination on whether a school/program meets Columbia’s prerequisite requirements is based on a review of their full EMR program, however all programs/courses at the institution are either accepted or not.
    • This means Scope Update courses and/or EMR Bridging courses from schools on the “Does Not Meet” list above also do not meet our prerequisities.
  • Many schools deliver programs they license (ex. a Red Cross course delivered by a local first aid school or Community Rec Center).  This means many schools will not be individually listed, but the program they deliver should be.
